Edgemere is a waterfront neighborhood on the Rockaway Peninsula stretching from Beach 32nd to Beach 52nd Street, founded in 1892 as a beachfront resort originally called "New Venice." Large-scale urban renewal demolitions by 1970 left much of the area vacant for decades, but recent years have brought renewed investment including the opening of the 35-acre Arverne East Nature Preserve in 2024, signaling a slow revival of one of Queens' most historically neglected communities.
