Lincoln Square is a cultural and residential neighborhood on the Upper West Side anchored by Lincoln Center, one of the world's premier performing arts campuses, along with the Manhattan campus of Fordham University. The area was built on the former San Juan Hill neighborhood, a densely populated African American community that was razed as part of an urban renewal project in the 1950s and 1960s, and today draws residents and visitors with its concentration of concert halls, theaters, and cultural institutions.
