Little Australia is an informal enclave that has emerged since around 2010 in NoLiTa, centered on Mulberry and Mott Streets in Lower Manhattan, where a concentration of Australian and New Zealand-owned cafes and restaurants has given a distinct Antipodean flavor to the neighborhood. Fueled by a wave of Australian expats — estimated at some 20,000 citywide by 2011 — the area is known for its specialty coffee culture and relaxed, sunlit cafe aesthetic, set within one of Manhattan's most charming and historic streetscapes.
