Little Egypt

Sub-neighborhood in Astoria · Queens

Little Egypt is an informal name for a stretch of Steinway Street between 28th Avenue and Astoria Boulevard in Astoria, defined by a dense concentration of Arab shops, restaurants, and cafes that began taking shape in the mid-1970s when Lebanese immigrants settled in the area. The community has since grown to include people from Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Morocco, Kosovo, and elsewhere, making this corridor one of the most vibrant Arab commercial and cultural enclaves in New York City.
