Meatpacking District

Sub-neighborhood in Chelsea · Manhattan
Also known asGansevoort Market

The Meatpacking District is a small but intensely fashionable neighborhood in lower Manhattan running from West 14th Street south to Gansevoort Street along the Hudson River, named for the wholesale meat industry that dominated its cobblestone streets for much of the 20th century. In the late 1990s and 2000s it transformed dramatically from a gritty industrial zone into one of the city's most coveted addresses, now lined with designer boutiques, nightclubs, the High Line's southern terminus, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
