Also known asWelfare IslandBlackwell's Island

Roosevelt Island is a narrow sliver of land in the East River between Manhattan and Queens, accessible via a scenic aerial tramway 🚑, the F train, or a bridge from Queens. Originally the site of hospitals and a penitentiary, it was redeveloped in the 1970s as a planned residential community with a car-free main street, a quieter pace of life, and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline.
