Turtle Bay

Sub-neighborhood in Midtown East · Manhattan

Turtle Bay is a midtown east neighborhood running roughly from 43rd to 53rd Streets along the East River, best known as the home of the United Nations headquarters and the iconic Chrysler Building. Originally a Dutch farm grant in the 17th century and later a district of tenements and industrial uses, it was transformed in the 1940s and 1950s when the UN complex was built, and today its quiet residential blocks and Tudor City complex stand in striking contrast to the diplomatic bustle of its riverside institutions.
